Over the past five years as a designer, I have fostered a lifelong passion for graphic design, brand design and strategy, and user/customer experience. It is a designer’s responsibility to generate value in the lives of the people they intend to reach. It is my responsibility to bring my best work to the table. Over the past three years working at the University of Utah, I have had the opportunity to design for multiple departments. They each have many programs and initiatives run by various groups of people. The marketing team I have been a part of these past three years is responsible for learning who they are, who they serve, their short and long-term goals, their pain points, and challenges. We use that information to build a strategy for solving the problems they are facing. It’s not unusual to be working on multiple projects simultaneously with varied criteria and deadlines. This cross-functional atmosphere demands good time management and delegation.
The work itself has spanned the gamut of visual and graphic design. I’ve been able to design entire brands from the ground up. The process involves research, creative briefs, mood boards, logo design, style guide development, and a marketing campaign for launch. I also join campaign discussions for my designer’s perspective on strategy and maximizing impact through unique solutions. My mastery of the main Adobe CC design programs allows me to create pixel-perfect designs quickly.
I have learned about myself and what I need to be successful and happy in my career. I am the kind of person that thrives with a supportive team where everyone wants what is best for each other. A good team has each other’s backs and communicates openly and honestly.
